COP 2024

In Every Season

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Thank you for volunteering your time as a chaperone for COP. Ultimately, we are first and foremost concerned with the well-being and safety of our students. This is why Chaperone Guidelines are in place. Chaperones and staff should set a good example with regard to conduct, language, appropriate dress, etc. As leaders we need to be intentional about the examples we are setting for our students. Please refrain from conversations about inappropriate materials. (Books, movies, gossip, etc.) The students are watching you. Think about your words and actions.

The following is advice/expectations that will help with all chaperoning situations:

  • Teenagers don’t always think clearly and responsibly, help them
  • Don’t ignore inappropriate behavior (Beware of couples)
  • Try not to compound a situation by over-reacting
  • Respect the students and their privacy, but enforce all rules
  • You are every student’s parent while chaperoning
  • Rules and schedules may need to be adjusted. Please be flexible.
  • Conduct rules are in effect at all times.
  • If you have any questions regarding duties, times and responsibilities please seek council from Student Minister or COP Leadership before approaching other staff.
  • Do not undermine the authority of those who have established the guidelines, please keep it to yourself until a more appropriate time.
  • If you are unsure of how to handle a situation, ask leadership
  • During the evening activities, there will be a medical provider on site. Should a student be hurt or become ill, chaperones should take the student to the medical provider then return to their assigned duties. The medical provider will make determination as to the next steps and notify COP leadership. If a student becomes ill after the on-site medical provider has gone a chaperone will be responsible for staying in close proximity to the ill student in case medical attention is needed. It will be the responsibility of the chaperone to determine the necessity of contacting Student Minister or COP Leadership regarding the illness. If parent notification/pick-up is required, they will determine next steps.
  • Under no circumstances are students or chaperones allowed to leave the premises without permission of Student Minister or COP Leadership.  Any student found doing so will be sent home.

After reviewing the guidelines, if you have any further questions, please ask Student Minister or COP Leadership. I have read and understand the responsibilities for the role in which I am volunteering, and I agree to honor, respect and abide all of the guidelines established.

Testimonial

Creekside COP - Participant / Volunteer Testimonial
"Marvel Comics has nothing on COP! For one week in July, super heroes from Creekside make a difference in their communities through hard work and love. As a Host Home I have had the joy and blessing to hear their stories at the end of each day and simply be amazed. I can't wait for each year's COP sequel."
