COP 2024

In Every Season

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

With God’s help, we will so order our lives after the example of Christ, that this child, surrounded by steadfast love, may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to eternal life.

Thank you for volunteering your time as a chaperone for COP.  Ultimately, we are first and foremost concerned with the well-being and safety of our students. This is why these Chaperone guidelines are in place. Chaperones and staff should set a good example with regard to conduct, language, appropriate dress, etc. As leaders we need to be intentional about the examples we are setting for our students.  Please refrain from the following:

  1. Conversations about inappropriate materials. (Books, movies, gossip, etc.)  The students are watching you.  Think about your words and actions.
  2. Do not undermine the authority of those who have established the guidelines. Do not side with students. If you disagree with established guidelines, please keep it to yourself until a more appropriate time.

The following is advice that will help with all chaperoning situations:

  • Teenagers don’t always think clearly and responsibly. Help them.
  • Don’t ignore inappropriate behavior. (Beware of couples.)
  • Try not to compound a situation by overreacting.
  • Respect students and their privacy, but enforce all rules.
  • You are every student’s parent while chaperoning.
  • If you are unsure of how to handle a situation, ask leadership.
  1. Overnight Chaperones are expected to arrive by 9:30 p.m. Someone from COP Leadership will give you your student/dorm assignment and other appropriate instructions.
  2. Conduct rules are in effect at all times.
  3. Students and chaperones are not permitted to leave the premises without permission of COP Leadership.  Any student found doing so will be sent home.
  4. Chaperones will be given student and dorm assignments. It is your responsibility to make sure students in your assigned dorm are not only safe but honoring and respecting the rules.
  5. Room assignments are FINAL.  Dorming conflicts must be referred to Student Minister or COP Leadership.
  6. Chaperones should position themselves according to instructions so that you can have an eye on students at all times.
  7. No student air mattresses, blankets, pillows or sleeping bags will be allowed outside the dorm rooms.
  8. The “No Co-ed visitation” rule, to dorms, is to be strictly enforced by the chaperones. This rule applies to the chaperones as well as the students.
  9. During evening activities, there will be a medical provider on site.  Should a student be hurt or become ill, chaperones should take the student to the medical provider and then return to their assigned duties.  The medical provider will make determination as to next steps and notify COP Leadership.
  10. If a student becomes ill after the on-site medical provider is gone, a chaperone will be responsible for staying in close proximity to the ill student in case medical attention is needed. It will be the responsibility of the chaperone to determine the necessity of contacting Student Minister or COP Leadership regarding the illness. If parent notification/pick up is required, the Student Minister or COP Leadership will determine next steps.
  11. Chaperones will perform dorm checks at lights out and throughout the night for your assigned dorms until wakeup time.
  12. Chaperones will remind students at wake up call that they must be fully dressed before departing their dorm halls.
  13. Lights Out times are to be enforced. Please refer to supplemental guidelines for additional detail regarding  phones, music etc.

We appreciate our volunteers!  After reviewing the guidelines, if you have any further questions, please ask Student Minister or COP Leadership.

I have read and understand the responsibilities for the role in which I am volunteering, and I agree to honor, respect and abide all of the guidelines established.

"There aren't many weeks that you look forward to all year. COP is one of the few. The thing that has meant the most to me through COP is the way everyone works together. There isn't much else like it."
